Sawyer Rhea continued....

As you remember we did not know the sex of our baby until she was born.  Well, because of the c section Spencer would have been the one to show her off in the window and I just didn't want him to get all of the glory since I had been the one to carry her around for 9+ months.  So we both had decided we would wait until they were rolling me upstairs to tell them.

Now keep in mind when you have a c section they have to keep you in recovery for like an hour to an hour and a half.  So by the time we were able to tell our family whether or not we had a daughter or son, it was almost two hours after I delivered.  They were going crazy to say the least.  They were questioning nurses in the hallway and even cornered my doctor who had to go a different route just to try and avoid them.

Sawyer Rhea Roden 047 Here we come!  Recovery is over.  We are now headed to postpartum (our room for the next three days).  The gender is about to be revealed!

Sawyer Rhea Roden 052 We have Sawyer Rhea!  Apparently it took about 10 seconds for it to register with everyone that Sawyer Rhea was our girl name we had picked out.  We didn't quite get the response we were hoping for.  I remember my dad saying, "It's a boy!" before I ever said anything.  Once they realized it was a girl, we had already rounded the corner as you can see in the picture.  I guess I should have said "It's a girl!!" But I was too drugged to care.  Don't get me wrong everyone is ecstatic about having a girl, it just didn't register with them right away!

Sawyer Rhea Roden has Arrived!

As of my last post we were scheduled to go back to the doctor Wednesday (July 14) afternoon.  I was not looking forward to this appointment.  The doctor was going to check me again and if I had not progressed she was going to send me down to labor and delivery and insert a balloon catheter to help speed up my progression so I could be induced on Thursday morning.  I truly did not want this procedure to happen.  So I said my prayers really hard and told Spencer that he better say his too.

Tuesday night we went and had dinner at La Fiesta since this would most likely be our last dinner our for a while.  Plus I didn't feel like cooking and I LOVE La Fiesta.  We came home and hung out then went to sleep.  Well, Spencer went to sleep.  I on the other hand could not sleep because I was nervous about the doctors appointment the next day and the baby was moving so much I just could not get comfortable.  I was also praying very hard to God to just let my water break on its on.  So around 1:45 AM  I woke up startled and something felt very different. I got up and went to the restroom. I then stood up and felt a trickle down my leg.  I yelled for Spencer to wake up because I thought my water had broken.  He was comatose. He finally woke up and I called the doctor and she told me to come on in.  I jumped in the shower and by this time I began to feel a gush.  My water had definitely broken.  Spencer put our things in the car and off we went to the hospital.  We arrived around 2:45 and the nurse did her test to make sure my water had broken and indeed it had.  Praise the Lord!  My prayers had been answered.  They hooked me to fluids and pitocin and my contractions begin to increase.  I got an epidural and some nice pain medication and settled in.  When we arrived at the hospital I was 2.5 cm dilated.  We were on track to having this baby.  Around 7:00 they check me again and I was 5 cm dilated.  We made calls to our parents about this time.  We didn't call when we left for the hospital because we knew it might still be a little while.  Around nine o'clock my parents, Katie, and April arrived.  We were visiting in the labor and delivery room.  Then around 9:45 they checked me again and I was 9.5 cm dilated.  Everyone came back in and got there things and the nurse begin to set up the room because I was soon about to begin pushing.

I began pushing around 10:15.  Everything was going pretty well.  We were really thinking the baby would be here around 11:00.  Well, 11:00 came and went and I was still pushing.  The doctor came in around 11:45 and I overheard her whispering or rather talking in a quiet voice with the nurse.  The baby's heart rate had also began to increase.  It was now in the 180's and even went to 205.  Spencer had been watching the monitor the whole time and he knew something was up.  We tried pushing a little more, but she could just not make it over the pubic bone.  I spiked a fever and the baby's heartrate was not decreasing so the Dr. informed us it was best to do a C section.  At this point the tears began to flow. I have never been in the hospital before nor have I ever had any major surgery and this was the last thing I wanted.  However, I knew the Dr. had our best interest at heart and knew what she was doing.  Next thing I knew there were a flood of nurses, doctors, and anesthesiologists prepping me for surgery.  This literally took like 10 min then they wheel me down the hall to the OR. Spencer had to wait like 10 min before he could join me.  Once he arrived in the OR I felt much better and knew it would only be a matter of minutes before we would meet our baby.

Sawyer Rhea Roden 039 Next thing I know I hear the doctor's say we have a girl.  I was sort of in shock yet felt like I knew all along it was a little girl.  It was love at first sight.

There is more to this story to it will be continued...

We Have a Plan...

We went pack to the doctor today.  They did an ultrasound to make sure I still had plenty of fluid for LBR, which I do.  She also did another exam and decided that I would be induced on Thursday morning.  However, she wants me to come back to see her on Wednesday afternoon for another exam to see if my cervix has made anymore progress.  If it hasn't then I will be be sent downstairs and they will insert a balloon to help with the induction process.

This is definitely not the route I wanted to go, but I am not sure I have any other choice.  The last thing we wanted was to be induced, but LBR seems to be pretty stubborn and may not come without a little help.

There is still a chance LBR could come on his/her own, but it isn't looking like it.  I am saying my prayers that he/she does, because I am not really looking forward to any of this, however one thing is for sure, LBR will be at some point on Thursday, if not before then.

July 11, 2010...

came and went and we still do not have a baby.  I have been looking forward to this date since we found out this would be the due date for our little one.  Of course I understand this was just an estimated due date and the baby could come either before or after this date, but I never imagined LBR would be late.  He/she is apparently very stubborn just like his/her parents.  LBR is going to make his/her arrival when he/she is ready!

I almost feel as if I have been left at the alter.  I know that sounds crazy, but to have this date in my mind for the past nine months and still no baby, it is the craziest feeling.  I almost feel as if this baby is never going to come.

We go back to the doctor today at 2:00.  I know she is going to be surprised to see me there, but as of now, we will be there.  I have no idea what she is going to say.  I know we will probably do a stress test just to double check to make sure the baby isn't in distress and then I suppose we will discuss how we are going to get LBR here.  She may set up an appointment to induce or she may tell me to wait it out until Friday.....who knows at this point????? Now I do know she is not going to let me go over 41 weeks.  Apparently first time moms can tend to go longer than 40 weeks.  I guess the baby is just very comfortable and doesn't see any reason with gracing us with his/her presence.

Hopefully, I will know more this afternoon and will be able to give another update this evening.  I am getting just as impatient as everyone else, and I have no idea when this baby will arrive.  But, as soon as I do, I promise to let you know! :)

Update...

We went back to the doctor today for our weekly appointment.  We are  at 39 weeks and 4 days.  When we were in last week she honestly didn't think we would be back for this week's appointment.  However, LBR has chosen not to make his/her arrival yet.  The appointment went well.  Everything looks great.  My blood pressure is good, but I still have not dilated but one centimeter.  She wants to see us back on Monday if LBR has not made it to us by then.  I guess then we will discuss options.  Doc did say that she didn't want to induce unless she had to.  She likes to let first time moms do their thing.  That made us feel a lot better.  We really do not want to go the induction route, and were quite relived we didn't have to make that decision.  Of course there is always a chance we might have to, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.

We are really hoping LBR makes his/her arrival soon and on his/her own.  Our official due date is Sunday, so the next few days I am just going to take it easy and hang out around the house.

On a side note, the doc did say that she was very impressed that I still had skinny ankles this late in pregnancy.  After all those crazy comments I have posted in previous posts I thought this was a very nice compliment :)

Stay posted for more LBR updates...

Still Waiting...

Well...it has been a week since our last doctor's appointment.  I guess you could say I sort of got my hopes up when the doctor said she expected to see us over the long weekend.  Apparently, LBR had different plans.  This little one is going to come on his/her own time.  Not ours, that is for sure.  Every night when we go to bed, I go to sleep thinking I could possibly be woken up with either my water breaking or contractions.  Still nothing.  We are trying our best not to be impatient, but we are getting that way.  We are so ready to meet our little one.

We go back to the doctor this afternoon.  I am very excited and nervous to see what she might say.  I am wondering how big LBR is and if the doctor will want to induce.  We really do not want to induce if at all possible, but if LBR is a big baby already, I am not going to hold back.  We shall see.....

Coming Home Outfits

After our Dr.'s appointment yesterday Spencer and I went to Brookwood Mall to look for a coming home outfit for our little one.  Spencer does not believe LBR needs a coming home outfit, but I do.  So needless to say I win.  I have always wanted to have this keepsake, and  just because Spencer doesn't want it, doesn't mean we don't need it.  He just doesn't understand all this sometimes.  His biggest concern was the little boy outfit.  He just does not like the smocking outfits for little boys.  He thinks a little boy should wear sweet little Polo onesies.  Now, don't get me wrong I think little Polo onesies are adorable, I just want the special outfit for coming home.  So after much deliberation we finally chose a little boy outfit that Spencer could live with.  Check it out:

image Now, of course this little boy is older, but you can get the idea of what the newborn outfit would look like.  There isn't any smocking on it, it's just soft and sweet.

This is the dress I picked out if LBR is a sweet little girl.  I absolutely feel in love with this dress.  Once I saw it I knew was the dress I wanted.  However, I don't feel like this picture does it justice.  It is gorgeous in person. Check it out:

image This little girl is also older, so you have to imagine it a little smaller.

The sweet lady at Strasburg put these on hold for me so I will just have to send someone down the hill once LBR arrives to pick up one or the other.

Hoping it happens this weekend!

It's July, Baby!

We have made it to the month in which our first born child will be born in!  Yay! A Ruby for a birthstone just like their Daddy :)

We went back to the doctor yesterday for our weekly appointment and received some exciting news.  Everything looks great!  However, when Spencer asked the Dr. if we could go to the lake this weekend she said, "Absolutely not!" We need to stay in town and I need to take it easy.  She also informed us that she is on call this weekend and will not be surprised if she gets a call from us.   She said she was going to write on my form to make an appointment with her next week, but she does not think I will make it to next week!  We are super excited!  We might be meeting our sweet little baby within the next seven days!  Hopefully, this weekend since our Dr. is on call. So...needless to say we are trying to make sure we have things ready!  Guess we will be busy bees this weekend!
