Two of the three tomato plants have tomatoes on them. We had four plants, but Bella chose to eat it. It shouldn't be too long before we can enjoy a fresh BLT!

We Have Tomatoes!
The Little Waverunner That Could
A couple of weekends ago we decided to launch The Blue Goose for it's first voyage of the season. Spencer thought he had fixed any problems the boat might possibly have. I had also cleaned the seats and vacuumed the entire boat. (It's 28' long) Yes, we were able to launch the boat however, it didn't make it too far before water began to fill in the engine compartment. I don't know that much about boats, but I do know, that is not a good thing. We decided to just try and enjoy being out on the lake and wait a few minutes before we attempted to head back to the dock. We were going to meet my sister, Katie, and her friends anyway. Katie and her friends came and joined us. Then black clouds seemed to get closer. We decided we should probably head in. We were not making it very far at all because like I said before, the engine compartment was filling with water. Spencer finally just said, "Katie, you are going to have to pull us in on your waverunner." and she did.
Katie and Russell pulling The Blue Goose to safety!
Thankfully, Katie and her waverunner were there!

Is it summer yet?
Well, I thought since I had finished graduate school I might actually get a little bored this summer. As summer slowly draws near I am quickly learning I am going to have a pretty busy schedule. The last day for my students is May 29. However, our award's day is tomorrow and some students will not return after that. My official last day is June 2. I am so excited.
The first weekend after we get out of school some friends of mine from school are heading to the beach for a "girls" weekend. We are very excited about this!
Then, at the end of June I am heading to Philadelphia and Washington DC for a week. This is actually a school trip I am going on with another teacher from work. Now I know many of you are thinking why in the world would you want to take students on a trip? Well, first of all there are only six students going! It's a technology conference they were invited to attend so they could present their technology project they have worked on all year in front of 20,000 educators from all over the world. I have never been to Philly so I am very excited about this trip. Not to mention my aunt, Allison, lives right outside of DC and she has so graciously invited us over one evening to grill out!
The big trip of the summer for me is our trip to Grayton Beach! Yes, Spencer and I have rented a beach house and we will be at the beach for an entire week. This is something I am most looking forward to. Our friends, Lauren and Russell, will be joining us on Wednesday or Thursday and stay the remainder of the time. This trip is long overdue and much needed! I can already hear The Red Bar calling our names!
Finally, I have promised Joycie, my grandmother, that we would take day trips. She already has a list going of places she would like to go. Here are a few; Gees Bend, Callaway Gardens, Ava Marie Grotto, and that is only the beginning. Needless to say I will have plenty to blog about this summer!

Have you ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree?
The other night Spencer and I were watching a movie and I saw Tater Tot run across the porch. Then I saw the mean black and white cat from across the street run across the porch as well. That brought me to my feet. I went outside and called for Tater and Piper but no response. He was no where to be found. That's when you look UP!! Yes, the black and white cat from across the street had treed my two cats.
This has happened to Piper twice before and every time Spencer claims he's not going up after them. Well, I still consider them babies and it worries me. Spencer knows this so he decided to go after them. Piper decided she didn't want to be yanked out of the tree this time so she climbed down backwards about one foot on the otherside and fell backwards. She probably fell a good 12 feet. Luckily landing on her feet. But aren't cats always supposed to land on their feet? Tater Tot on the other hand was very scared and nervous. You could see it in his eyes. So....
(WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT AT HOME) Spencer put our iron patio chair on top of the railing then, not only did he stand in the chair on top of the railing, but he stood on the armrests of the chair on top of the railing. He was able to retrieve Tater Tot and then safely climbed down himself.
This is just an idea of how far up they were from the ground.

Tater Tot
For those of you who have not seen Tater Tot since we brought him home in December, here is a recent photograph. He is growing like a weed.

I Might Have a Green Thumb
I have been wanting to try my hand at growing plants for a while now. I just sort of put it off because I didn't exactly know where to begin. My mom told me she was going to grow tomato plants for the summer so I talked with my parents and Spencer and I have decided to grow our own plants. I also found packets of seeds at Dollar Tree for $.10. So I am trying to grow herbs too! I am attempting to grow parsley, basil, chives, and cilantro. We are hoping our tomato plants will produce quite a few tomatoes and we can use the cilantro and make homemade salsa.
In the coconut liner I am growing a smorgasbord of flowers from the $.10 packet I purchased at the Dollar Tree. The two planters on the side contain chives and basil, and the three small planters contain cilantro and parsley.
These are our four Talladega tomato plants purchased from Lowe's. We were going to begin with seeds, but felt we had a late start. These plants are supposed to grow very well in the Alabama heat.
This is the hosta I bought last year. I have four of them. I honestly thought I killed them off, however, after all of the rain this year I slowly began to see a little green coming back. They were actually still in the plastic containers I bought them in. So, yesterday on my day off Spencer and I went to Lowe's and purchased three new planters so I could transplant them.
